Join us for a perfect summer day in the Sonoma wine country visiting the Luther Burbank Home & Gardens and the Matanzas Creek Winery.
In Santa Rosa, we will meet Bob Hornback, Horticultural Historian at the Luther Burbank Home & Gardens. There, we will enjoy a guided tour of the charming house and grounds of the world-famous Plant Wizard, Luther Burbank. On display will be some of his notable introductions including spineless cacti and Shasta daisies. We will also be treated to an inside tour of Burbank’s vintage greenhouse, and visit the carriage house, which is now home to the Burbank Museum and Gift Shop.
Heading east into Bennett Valley, we will arrive at the Matanzas Creek Winery, where head gardener Patricia Kaczmarek will talk to us about the culture and use of lavender, a featured crop at the winery. After breaking for a delicious box lunch, Patricia and Bob will lead a tour of the lavender growing fields and the winery's handsomely landscaped grounds (you'll want to bring your camera!). The tour will also include a visit to the lavender barn in which we will be able to view how lavender is stored and processed into various products.
Our perfect day will conclude in the elegant tasting room of the Matanzas Creek Winery, in which we will have an opportunity to taste some of the select wines produced there, and to purchase the wines and lavender products we have seen throughout our visit.
Cost includes lunch, refreshments and entry fee to the Luther Burbank Home & Gardens.
