Traditional Native Californian Basket Making Class (200-420)

Saturday, May 17th, 10am-4pm

Learn how to create traditional Pomo Indian sandbar willow (Salix exigua) basket with expert basket weaver, Charlie Kennard. Each participant will learn how to make a lightweight basket using several different weaves, suitable for gathering berries or holding small fruits.

All materials included.

About Charlie Kennard
Charlie Kennard is a long-time basket weaver and student of central California Indian techniques, as well as of several European techniques, including bee-hive weaving. He has taught for MAPOM, Point Reyes Field Institute, East Bay Regional Parks, and in many schools. The California Academy of Sciences commissioned him to build a full-size tule boat for a display. Charlie is also active in native habitat restoration, managing several projects for the Friends of Corte Madera Creek Watershed. He lives in San Anselmo.
