Apothecary Jar Art Garden (214-222)

February 22, 2-5pm

Inspired by the Victorian idea of the "Cabinet of Curiosities", create a whimsical living work of art as you construct a miniature fantasy art garden. We will have a collection of lichen covered branches, lush miniature ferns, colorful succulents, small bones, and ornamental mosses, all in a fanciful apothecary jar you will adorn with found items. All materials included.

More about the "Cabinet of Curiosities"

Cabinets of curiosities were encyclopedic collections of objects belonging to natural history, geology, ethnography, archaeology, religious or historical relics, works of art, and antiquities. Although, these items were sometimes fake these collections were regarded as a microcosm or memory theater of the world.
In the age before modern science, aristocrats and royalty were able to obtain rare and unusual artifacts to create their own personal "museum of rarities". Exotic corals, disfigured bones, and strange objects were all a way to demonstrates one's wealth.
