Birding at the Garden (262-115)

First Sunday of Every Month

Come bird-watching with docents, Helen McKenna & Allan Ridley, on the first Sunday of each month (8:00am, 9th & Lincoln entrance). This is a slow-paced amble from the front gate to the far reaches of the "John Muir wilds", co-sponsored by SFBGS and the Golden Gate Audubon Society.

We especially welcome and support beginning birders with information about the birds, how to spot them, how to identify them and what their behaviors reveal about their little feathered lives. It is of interest to note interactions between the birds and the plants during different seasons. The presence of water in the Garden is also an attraction to birds, from nuthatches drinking from the hands of St. Francis to herons fishing in the pond. On these first Sunday trips, we usually spot around 40 species, both resident birds and passing migrants.

We meet at the 9th & Lincoln entrance, entering the Garden at 8:00AM. The gate is re-locked after we enter, so be on time. Parking is readily available at this hour on Sunday mornings. Hope to see you there!
