Five Tastes - Chinese Herbal Medicine for the Lunar New Year (200-829)
An interactive introductory workshop

February 9 10am - 12 pm

Traditional Chinese Medicine may seem exotic and esoteric, but it is deeply rooted in an awareness of nature and our own sensory experiences. In this presentation we will discuss nature and health and how traditional Chinese medicinal herbs are selected and used. This will include tasting different forms of Chinese herbs. This session will also cover Chinese herb cultivation illustrating locally suitable Chinese medicinal plants with 40 samples. Students will be sowing Chinese herbs in 6 packs to take home and grow in pots or in the garden.

Sean Fannin, CH, Dipl.CEM practices traditional Chinese herbal medicine at the Center for Traditional Health Arts in Petaluma, CA. He has worked in a clinical practice that is based on the Chinese medical and philosophical classics since 1992. Sean's primary interest is in classical Asian philosophy and its practical applications to modern life. This has formed the basis for his clinical practice, teaching and writing. He lives in Petaluma with his family.

Peg Schafer is the owner/operator of the Chinese Medicinal Herb Farm near Petaluma a 16 year old farm with a focus grower educational. She is the author of The Chinese Medicinal Herb Farm A Cultivator’s Guide to Small-Scale Organic Herb Production recently published by Chelsea Green.
