The best way to learn plant identification is build a framework and the best framework consists of the 40 + common plant families found in California. We'll use my new book "California Plant Families West of the Deserts and Sierran Crest", UC Press as a guide in the field.

We'll make around a four-mile loop passing through several plant communities and noting the highlights of the families of species we see. You should be pleasantly surprised by some of the simple rules to apply in this endeavor.
