Although conifers are an ancient group, they still dominate mountain terrains, tropical uplands and temperate rain forests. Conifers can be fascinating components of the garden as well as exquisite subjects for illustration.
Learn about conifers from all over the world, including the world’s tallest, biggest, and oldest trees. Aspects of their growth character, leaves, needles and of course, their cones will be explored with actual live and dried specimens as well as taking walks in the garden. Myths, legends, and tall tales will also be included.
This class can be bundled with Mary Harden's afternoon botanical art class.
In the afternoon, join Mary L. Harden (course 213-172) to expand on your knowledge of conifers. Students will explore basic techniques for drawing with accuracy and beauty. Learn a basic posture and set-up that enables your untapped abilities to work at their best. This class will sketch outside in the Arboretum using scribbling and sighting. Students will learn basic techniques in pencil, pen and ink, ink wash and colored pencil.
