Trending to the Wild: A Report on OAEC’s Ecological Emulation Efforts (202-226) |
|||||||||||
Thu, Aug 2, 7:30pm Occidental Arts and Ecology Center’s (OAEC) wildlife biologist, Brock Dolman, will provide an evening of slide images and interpretation about the Center’s 80-acre parcel in western Sonoma County and ongoing efforts toward an active engagement with this land that has been so significantly modified and manipulated in the past 150 years. This evening will, in essence, be a form of storytelling around the firelight of digital images. It will strive to be an honoring of traditional indigenous knowledge blended with “modern” tactics being used to manage and restore native plant communities such as evergreen forests, woodlands, soft chaparral, and coastal prairie. Issues relating to fire suppression and use, erosion control, water management, wildlife habitat, invasive species, and Sudden Oak Death will be discussed. Time for participatory discussion will be encouraged at the end of the talk. |
