Late-Autumn Skies (206-212)

Friday, December 15th (5:30-7:00 pm; sunset at 4:52 pm) - Observing cancelled in the event of cloudy skies, but a classroom lecture will be available.

As we approach the start of winter, the stars of summer are still prominent, though setting in the west at sunset. The constellations of fall are directly overhead, and the famous winter constellations are just rising in the east, led by the monstrous Taurus the Bull. The Red Planet Mars also stands blazing in the southeast after sunset, and we'll gaze at it through a telescope, along with the Andromeda Galaxy, a double star cluster, and the strikingly-beautiful Pleiades star cluster!
