Papermaking Workshop (213-148)

Thu, Jul 13, 10:00am--4:00pm

Learn to make handmade paper, washi, from abaca, a traditional Asian fiber from the Manila hemp (Musa textiles). We will form sheets with a western style mold and deckle adding plant material of your choice for color and texture. The paper made in class will be suitable for painting with ink and marbling (suminagashi), gift-wrapping, lantern making and many other uses in the paper arts. Participants will also learn how to set up a papermaking studio in their homes. Open to all levels.
